Win number four!!
first 5K run in **15:45 PB**
After hammering out that run onto the bike after a fast transition.
The bike was a good undulating course, lots of traffic though!
The race was in 4 random selcted waves, so this race was pretty much a race against the clock..not knowing how fast anyone would be in the other waves!
So I aimed for a time....and the course record seemed liked a good time to be under!!
And it worked beat the record by over a minute!
Woop Woop!!
last three races...1st...5th......1st
Next up new forest duathlon....... bring it on ;D

Xterrain Duathlon 10K/24K/5K 26th September-5th
After a win last weekend, I was confident about my fitness. But I needed alot more than fitness today!!
IT WAS HELL
10K
I was second down by 30 or so seconds.
Then onto the MTB, first I stacked it into a big puddle. the down hills had EVERYONE going faster!!!
On the flats and uphills I was fine. But any technical section was just SLOW!!!
second run was a poor 20minutes or so!
came 5th
Ipswich Duathlon 5K/23K/5K 20th september-1st
It's been a while since my last post!!
I have been getting average results, in triathlon and getting injured!!!
So a win in duathlon against Jez Cox, possibly britains top Duathlete!
So motivation is now up!
5K
Led with a pack of two others, with Jez close behind.
the other two runners dropped back on the bike!
23K bike
I was out in front alone untill Jez caught up with about 10 mins to go.
We cycled into transition together.
5K run
I had a storming T2 and got a 20 second lead on Jez and managed to keep it!!!
What a massive day for me!! duathlon is the way forward!

National Sprint Championships
This was going to be the most competitive field I have ever raced in!
37th overall and 8th in my age group is good considering, two week s earlier I was racing in a race some 128miles or 11 hours longer. That is Ironman Lanzarote!
The swim 12:50
I really wanted to do the swim in 10 minutes, and come out in the front pack!
But with just one week of speed training in the pool, this was never going to happen!
I had a really good swim, I really enjoyed it. I just get stuck in ironman pace and can't push myself!
T1 took forever!!!
The bike 30:45
I was 13th fastest on the bike only 40 seconds slower than the first finisher!!
I was chuffed with this considering my chicken legs!!!
T2 took even longer than T2
My feet were so numb I couldn't fit them into my shoes!!!
The run about 19 minutes
Very slow for me!!
But I knew I wasn't going to win my age group, so I kinda gave up!

Ironman Lanzarote
Leading up to the race, I had to rest for a cold when I should have been doing my last bit of vital training! Also getting caught up with winning and training for shorter distance, I had neglected my long distance training!!
Swim
7am start, 1300 people running into the water!
I got bashed about alot in the first 900m, but I kept moving!
First lap in 31 minutes, I was happy with this since I got knocked about alot!
the second lap I didn't feel tired but I decided to sit on peoples feet and draft to conserve my energy!
Swim time 1:03
T1
I ran up into transition, grabbed my bag, my wetsuit already off! helmet on and ran with my cycle shoes to my bike!
5 minutes
Bike
With my ergomo power meter, I was constantly watching my watts. It was reading 300 and over all the time with people passing me! In my traing rides if I went over 260watts average I would blow by mile 80!
But I couldn't keep my wattage down, but I felt really good so I thought I'd see how I get on at this pace!
The cycle around the island was great, much better views than the normal farms and trees!
Cycling up the volcanoes was amazing, at one point we was actually in the clouds!
And the descents were scary!!
Time 6:45
Run
So 6:45 was a bit slow but I felt great I didn't hit the wall at all!!!
Well until after 10k on the run!
I ran a pace of 4:30 minutes per kilometre, but after 50 minutes it was run for a while then walk until someone pats me on the back to continue running!!
I don't remeber much more than that, it was all to traumatising!!
Run time 4:10
Ironman Lanzarote 12:09

Ashdon 10.5K-1st
Warming up for the race, I did not feel up for this!
I had gut ache and felt tired! I was hoping that all that will go away soon as I got going.
The gun went of, and more or less straight away it was myself and two others bunched up running in the lead, at times side by side taking up the whole road!
5K past before I knew it, and it was still myself and two others so close together, not letting anyone of us get away! 17 minutes was the split for the first 5K.
The whole race I was thinking negative. All that was going through my head was, these two do this all the time and are gunna leave me behind with a kilometer to go!
But then at around the 6K mark, one of the guys started to fall back slowly!!
This gave me a big boost. Then, to my surprise, the other guy I was running with started to back off a bit!
I couldn't believe it! I was in the lead on my own. I had dropped the other two!!
With my confidence soaring, I felt amazing and pushed slightley. Not too hard because with still about 2K's to go!
Running up the finish shoot, a big hill. I came first!! thats to wins in a row!
the second 5.5K split was 21minutes, but not because we slowed. But because it was very hilly!

Suunto Winter Duathlon Race Finale 5K/20K/5K-1st
Ok so it's the last race in the series, and I have been told that I'm in the lead!
No chest infection this time, so I was out to prove myself!
here we go. On the run I like to pace of the front couple of people, sometimes there are some really fast people that I can't keep up with.
But this time I was running with two guy's, and we made a big lead of everyone else. It turned out that one of those guy's was in the novice race, half the distance. So it was just me and one other guy way ahead!
I found it really easy, too easy so I pulled away! I ran a nice 16minute 5K
now on the bike and in the lead!
My legs were hurting which is unusual, maybe cos last weekends Exmoor ride and a hard week training!
But I was pulling away from Noah Knock who was about 2 minutes behind!
Onto the final 5K run.
I felt 'ok' wasn't sure if the win was in the bag. So I pushed hard!
I saw Noah who was still in second place. He was a way back, but I wasn't feeling great!
But then the final 1K, I realised that I was about to win my first race!!
Big smile hands in the air pointing number one, I crossed the line, as a marshal say's 'winner'!

Taunton Half-marathon

Hmm not a good idea, thrashing my legs on saturday in the hills of Exmoor, on my bike.
Then Sunday racing a Half!
I wasn't looking for a top ten or five or anything. Just done this since I was in the area!
I paced myself using a garmin forefootrunner 50 thingy! I just wanted to run at 3:45 minute kilometers to finish in under 80 minutes.
It felt nice and easy up untill 10K, where I felt a bit crappy for a few K's. Then I felt ok, untill these hills came out of knowwhere!!!
I crossed the line in 1:22, my watch said that I had done 22.5K instead of 21K! But it was all good fun!
Ironman UK 70.3 Bike Route
I love going down to taunton, and riding the bike route for the Ironman UK 70.3!
There are three reasons;

There are three reasons;
- I love riding around the hills of exmoor, it's a nice change from my normal routes.
- I like to use it as a fitness test, to see how fit I am heading into the race season.
- I like to compare my final time to see how I'll do in June.
So up at 6:00am to leave for 7:00am, for a 4hour drive.
Parked up at Wimbleball Lake and I saw a few cyclist also going out for a ride.
And of I went, I went of easy. I really wanted to feel good at the end and not blow up at mile 45 like normal!
First lap in 1:32, Hmm a bit slow for my liking but I felt great, so down to work!
Hmm 1:30 for the second. 3:02 overall and I didn't feel tired so not bad I guess!
Off to the harvester, then bed to take part in the Taunton half-marathon.

Suunto Winter Duathlon Race Two 5K/20K/5K
With a chest infection, I did not want to do this race!
But this was race two of a three race series. So I thought, I'll see how I do!
Well bad!!
All I can say is I struggled on the run, people running past me, not much different on the bike!
I was hoping for a puncture for a reason to pull out. But no luck onto the final 5K run!
God that hurt!
Oh well at least I'm still in the running for the series with a 7th place finish!
Suunto Winter Duathlon Race One
February 12Th 2009
The race season starts here.
After a two month break back in September 2008, after my first ever season!
And with three months of base training in my legs and arms (Base training, building stamina by lots of LONG and very SLOW training).
I was certainly not ready for this race, with my fastest running being 7 and a half minute mileing over three hours!
5K/20K/5K
I lined up feeling fit and fresh but not fast. I stuck with the front pack untill three peeled of and created a gap of around 60seconds!
Running into transition I felt confident in my cycling, with week in week out of 100mile rides in me!
On the bike I had the three ahead of me in my sights!
I went past the third and second by lap three of five, it took me a while to catch up to Nick Shasha, the leader. But I gained the lead by lap 4ish.
Running out onto the final 5K run I had a lead of about 30-50 seconds maybe less!
But my legs hurt bad! I felt slow. Nick and Phil Holland were running side by side catching me!
Oh well third won't be so bad I guess, but then I looked behind and only Nick was there, he passed me with less than a 1K to go. But to my surprise no Phil!
Second place well happy, my highest placing so far! 2009 is looking good!!
